Talua Barge
Talua is an RCC volunteer. He runs the RCC and lives with the children for the whole six months from November to May. There are 45 children in the RCC from ages five to 12. Talua is like a parent to them all.
Talua helped set up the RCC in Khalipathar in 2002. The villagers chose him to be the volunteer because he is a good teacher and Talua was very happy to do it.
"I enjoy it most when I see the children happy to be singing and dancing and free from worries.
The best thing about being a volunteer is living and mixing with the children and being involved in their lives. I'm like a parent to them.
The hardest times are when the parents first leave. The children are missing them, crying and longing for them. People in the village help me counsel them and motivate them to sing and dance.
They are pleased to see their parents again and wait at the road every evening from mid May. But they are also sorry to leave the RCC because we become like a big family and are very close."
