Seed banks
Over 300 varieties of seed crops used to grow in the area around Khalipathar. Now only 60 grow because the farming patterns have changed and people prefer the seeds that grow quickly.
The problem is that some of the seeds that grow slowly are good in times of drought because they do not need much rain.
ActionAid is working with the villagers to grow more types of seed again. These are being stored in seed banks. 61 seed banks were set up in 2002 in the area around Khalipathar. This means the villagers have more food during the winter.
