The landscape around Khalipathar is very beautiful. This video-clip was filmed in the evening when you can hear the hum of crickets and the sounds of people returning from their work in the fields.
The well is called a tenda. It has two long poles which pull the water bucket out of the well. This is poured into a channel, which flows all around the fields and waters the crops.
These men have finished harvesting the paddy plant and are laying it out in a khala. A khala is a clearing in the fields.
Then, buffalos walk all over the paddy to make the seeds separate from the stalks. The seeds are collected and put into a basket. This basket is shaken very skilfully so that the skins of the seeds fly off.
Next, the seeds are boiled and laid out to dry for five days. They are then taken to a rice-mill where the rice is removed from each seed.
