Human geography
I went to visit a farmer the other day on his shamba (farm). It took us ages to get there because the roads are so bad. Most people in Kenya live in rural areas and lots of them are involved in farming.
This guy grows sugar cane but he's struggling to make ends meet because he hasn't been paid for two years. His children are lucky though, all three are in school but lots of Kenyan families can't afford the fees.
The children work really hard at home as well. The girls spend two hours every day collecting water from the river. This water is not always clean and can make them ill.
I was quite surprised to hear so many people speaking English but apparently it's one of the official languages in Kenya. The other one is Swahili, but lots of people speak a third language at home as well. Most of the people I met were Christians, although when I went to the coast I also met lots of Muslims.
