Human geography
La Paz is the highest capital city in the world (4,000m), and when I got there I could see why people say it looks like a moon crater. It's pretty hard to breathe at times.
I saw lots of women walking the streets in bowler hats. Apparently they wear them on the top of their head if they are married and on the side if they are single! From La Paz I could see miniature canyons down the side of the hills.
Most of the people in Bolivia (55%) are descended from the original Indians. About 10% of people are of European descent, mainly Spanish. All the other people are a mixture of Indian and European. There are three official languages in Bolivia: Spanish, Quecha and Aymara.
Spanish is becoming more popular and fewer people are using the Indian languages. Aymara has been spoken since before the Incas arrived. Most people in Bolivia are Catholics although some mix this with traditional beliefs.
Most people only have one or two years of primary schooling and 15% never get to school at all. 23% of men and 50% of women in rural areas are illiterate.
44% of Bolivian people work in agriculture and it doesn't take a genius to work out that most of them live in the rural areas. About 20% of people work in services such as local government or banks; 16% work in industry and 2% work in silver, zinc, lead, copper and tin mines.
