ActionAid's work
ActionAid started work in Bangladesh in 1983 and now work with over half a million poor people. I went to villages where ActionAid works directly with poor people to help them improve their lives.
They set up savings and credit groups which mean people can save a bit of their earnings and borrow money to help their business. ActionAid are also helping provide education for children and adults who never went to school.
ActionAid lobby the government to make them consider the rights of poor people more. There is a lot that could be done to protect people from disasters such as floods, and the government is now starting to consider this.
ActionAid is also asking the government to give poor people back the land that they have a right to. This land is often taken over by the rich and powerful.
